Specsavers — Internal Tool

Digital needs analysis for opticians — instant printed handover summaries for the sales team.

Specsavers needs analysis tool

Project Goal

Working at Specsavers, I noticed a friction point in the daily workflow: when an optician finished an eye examination, the handover to the sales team was slow and inconsistent. Information got lost, customers had to repeat themselves, and the optician's time was wasted. I identified the problem and proposed a solution — a digital needs analysis tool built specifically for the handover process.

My Role

This was entirely self-initiated. I saw the problem, designed the solution, built it, and put it into use at the store — without being asked to.

How It Works

The optician works through a digital checklist during or after the examination, marking the customer's needs, preferences, and any relevant findings. When complete, the tool sends the summary directly to a thermal receipt printer — a compact, instant printout that travels with the customer to the sales floor. The salesperson receives everything they need to continue the conversation seamlessly, without any verbal briefing required from the optician.

Technical Build

Built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — a deliberate choice for simplicity and reliability in a retail environment where the tool needed to just work, every time, on any device in the store.

Result

The tool is in active use at the store today. It reduced handover time, improved the customer experience, and freed up the optician to move on to the next patient faster. A small tool with a real, measurable impact on daily operations.
